I love antiques, primitives, vintage children's toys, books and folk art. There is something sweet, comforting and beautiful in those things. For 30 years I collected (still do) and was in the antique business until 2004, when I started making paper mache figures to go with the antique decor sold. Soon I was selling more of my folk art and decided to forgo the antique business and go with my new found creative obsession. Not only is my work inspired by those things I adore but also our impish memories. Some pieces remind me of precious, funny or rotten little imps I've known or seen. Each piece is hand made (with the exception of some santas and kewpies that are made from antique and reproduction molds and marked as such) and can take up to or over a week to make. All pieces are one of a kind. They are embellished with antique and vintage odds and ends, such as old buttons, wire, glitter, beads, charms, etc.... Most of my pieces are glued on vintage children's blocks or old pieces of wood. Although my work may look like dolls or toys, they are pieces of folk art and are very delicate. My work has been in galleries in the southeast and has sold throughout the country and I'm now happy to include customers worldwide! Thank You for checking out my work! Carol Roll.
